On Friday the 19th August 2011, Pyle KPC youth centre played host to celebrity Alisha Dixon who is the face and host of this years Children In Need.

Porthcawl carnival success

On Saturday July 23rd thousands flocked to sunny Porthcawl to attend this year’s carnival organised by Porthcawl Buccaneers. Large crowds lined the streets from Sandy Bay to Porthcawl Rugby field where entertainment was organised.

Kenfig Hill annual fun day

On August the 6th Kenfig Hill annual fun day opened by par Olympian NATHAN STEPHENS, who was given a slate plaque from the Chair K. John Community Councillor after opening the event to commemorate winning a gold medal and becoming world champion at the javelin throwing.

PACT roadshow hits the beach!

The first ever PACT Roadshow rolled into Rest Bay beach to give local residents a greater say on local issues.

Operation Radar in Maesteg and Caerau

Officers from the Caerau and Maesteg Neighbourhood Policing Teams have been running joint operations since the start of May to tackle antisocial behaviour, youth annoyance and underage drinking.

Positive test purchasing result at Pencoed

The licensing team worked with BCBC trading standards and local Neighbourhood Policing teams last month, using young volunteers to purchase alcohol from premises in Pencoed.

Operation Quake

Launched on the 22nd of May to tackle Road traffic collisions, Operation Quake aims to improve conditions within the Maesteg sector. Launched as a follow on operation to Operation Molecule and the fire services campaign Domino Effect, Operation Quake seeks to promote road safety from an educational perspective to road users.

Road Safety quiz 2011

It was another successful year for the Bridgend Road safety quiz, with many talented youngsters competing for the chance to get to the finals. A new location this year saw the quiz held at the Porthcawl Grand pavilion, allowing those lucky few to take advantage of the location and enjoy an ice cream after the stress of the quiz.

CSI at Maesteg Comprehensive School

On Tuesday 17th of May students at Maesteg Comprehensive who are involved in the PUPIL Scheme and PCSO Bella Rees of Maesteg Neighbourhood Policing Team were given the opportunity to get inked up! Julie Gurner who is one of the forces Fingerprint Officers attended the school and delivered a fascinating talk on how fingerprints are formed, differences between individual fingerprints and the technologies available to the police to match fingerprints to persons.

Llan Rangers vs Maesteg Neighbourhood Policing Team Charity football match

On Saturday the 14th of May Maesteg Neighbourhood Policing Team downed tools and donned their football boots to play Llan Rangers in the second Llangynwyd Ward annual charity match. The day saw off- duty PC’s and PCSO’s ambitiously take on the District 1st Division side at the Harlequin Fields in order to raise funds for the Communications Base at Llangynwyd Primary School. After a hard fought match the police accepted a final score of 4 – 1 to Llan Rangers which indicated a vast improvement on last years 10- 1 final score!

There has been a recent spate of dwelling burglaries in the borough where burglars are breaking into houses, taking the car keys and stealing the car and other posessions.

Home Fire Safety Checks

South Wales Fire and Rescue Services carries out approximately 6000 Home Fire Safety Checks and fit approximately 12000 smoke alarms in homes throughout the area each year.
