Communities First

Communities First logo

Communities First teams are funded by the Welsh Government and will work with residents, community organisations, business and other key agencies in these areas, called Clusters, and will focus on actions leading to the long term sustainability and wellbeing of communities.

Involving local people in all aspects of this work is an essential feature of the programme.

Communities First aim to contribute, alongside other programmes, to narrowing the education/skills, economic and health gaps between our most deprived and more affluent areas.

The Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) is used to determine which areas are most deprived.

The new programme is built upon three strategic objectives:
•Prosperous Communities;
•Learning Communities;
•Healthier Communities.

Communities First will need to evidence that their projects link to these themes and using Results Based Accountability set targets and show results are being achieved (Value for Money approach).
